About the GSPI 

Backed by leading research institutions in Switzerland and Europe, the Geneva Science-Policy Interface (GSPI) is an independent, neutral platform that strives to enhance scientific engagement with global governance actors within the Geneva ecosystem. By supporting collaborations between scientists, policy, and implementation actors, the GSPI contributes to facilitate the emergence of effective, science-informed policies and solutions to complex global problems.

Supported by the University of Geneva and the Swiss Department of Foreign Affairs, the GSPI initiates and supports the design and implementation of impactful collaborations that contribute to evidence-based policymaking within the Geneva ecosystem. Our work includes an annual call for projects (Impact Collaboration Programme), the production of policy briefs, the production and dissemination of relevant contents on the field of science-policy engagement practices, as well various events to engage our network. 

About this position

In the context of a growing portfolio of activities and projects, we at the GSPI seek to complement our team with a dedicated communicator and event manager. This person will play a critical role in strengthening the visibility of GSPI’s activities, projects and expertise. She/he will help the GSPI position itself in the Geneva ecosystem and with communities of practice in the rest of Switzerland and abroad. The position is instrumental as the GSPI steps into its next growth phase.

Job description

  • Job title: Outreach Manager
  • Starting date: As soon as possible, no later than 1 February 2022
  • Contract type: Annual, renewable
  • Activity level: 80% (32 hours/week)
  • Salary: Class 15 (see State of Geneva’s salary scale here). Annuities depend on each candidate’ relevant experience
  • Location: Geneva, University of Geneva 

Roles and responsibilities

  • Develop and manage various GSPI events (one-day events, workshops, strategic meetings, etc.) (30%)
  • Develop and manage GSPI’s visual identity, branding and positioning as part of a comprehensive communication strategy (30%)
  • Develop, maintain and feed GSPI’s communication channels (website, social networks, contact database for email campaigns, powerpoints, etc.) (30%)
  • Provide communication and follow-up support around projects selected in the context of GSPI’s Impact Collaboration Programme (10%)

Required skills, expertise and experience

  • Bachelor or higher degree in communication-related fields
  • 3-5 years of experience in communication and events planning in areas related to science, policy and/or international relations
  • Skills and experience in using contact databases and email campaigns (e.g. Mailchimp)
  • Skills and experience in using social media channels (e.g. Twitter, LinkedIn)
  • Skills and experience in managing website CRMs (e.g. WordPress)
  • Skills in presenting information aesthetically (e.g. powerpoint, other graphic skills)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and French 
  • Experience in organizing small-mid scale events in person and online
  • Capacity to be autonomous and work in teams
  • Strategic thinking and excellent planning skills
  • Good organizational capacity and ability to manage busy periods
